Achievement Grade
Each student's achievement grade is based on the following scale:
90-100% A
80-89% B
68-79% C
56-67% D
55 & Below F
Effort Grade
Each student's effort grade will be based on:
1) Classroom participation
2) The amount of missing assignments
3) The effort put forth on each assignment.
Citizenship Grade
E=Excellent. An "E" in citizenship means you have gone above and beyond the average. You are helpful to other students. You are kind with your words and actions. You work very well in a group setting.
S=Satisfactory
N=Needs improvement. Needs Improvement grades will not be repeated the following quarter. N's become U's if no improvement is made.
U=Unsatisfactory. A student who does not act appropriately or whose attitude is poor will earn a '"U".
What to do when you have been absent.
1) It is YOUR responsibility to get your make-up work.
2) You have 2 school days to turn in work for each excused absence.
Late Work Policy
Each student will be allowed 2 late assignments per quarter, which may be turned in for partial credit.
Assigned Books
Your assigned book must have your name and the room number on the inside and outside cover. It must be covered at ALL times.
Homework
We will do most of our work in class, sometimes individually, sometimes with partners, and sometimes as a class. You should NOT expect to see homework in Science on a daily basis.
Needed Supplies
• Pencils and pens
• 1 three ring binder, size needed ½ to 1 inch thick (nothing larger please). This binder will remain in the classroom.
• 1 notebook, 70 pages college rule (nothing larger please). This notebook will remain in the classroom. Please note that I do have this notebook available for students to purchase for 10¢.
• Loose leaf paper college ruled
Test/Quiz
A test will be given after each chapter in the textbook has been completed. There also will be quizzes during the course of each chapter. All tests and quizzes are required to be signed by a parent/guardian. Any student caught cheating on a test or quiz will receive an automatic “0”. Students absent on the day of the test will be required to make it up on the day he/she returns unless other arrangements are made.
Extra Credit
A student can receive extra credit once a month with a current event. The current event must be related to a science topic and can be found in either a newspaper, magazine, or off an accredited internet website. The current event must be written within the month it is due. For example, the current event extra credit article for the first month must be written between the days of September 1st to September 30th. A form will be available in class for any student who would like to perform the extra credit. Each current event can be worth up to 15 points.
