Dear Families,
Welcome to sixth grade at Casimir Middle School. I hope all of you had a wonderful summer break and that your children are as eager to begin the new school year as I am. This is my third year as a sixth grade teacher (second year at Casimir) and I will be teaching Language Arts, Social Studies, Study Skills and Enrichment for this school year.
I grew up on the east coast primarily right outside of Philadelphia, PA. I attended college at The University of Maryland at College Park, GO TERPS! After graduating, I moved out to San Diego to be closer to my brother who had moved out a few years prior. I began my career in sales, then after a few years, decided to follow my heart and work towards my teaching credential. I earned my credential in 2003, and have been teaching since. I couldn't be happier with my career choice! My husband, of two years, was admitted into the Physical Therapy program at Long Beach State, so we relocated to Long Beach in the summer of 2006 and that is how I fortunately ended up here at Casimir Middle School.
This is a very exciting year for my husband and I as we are expecting our first child in early December. I will be off for maternity leave but will be returning right afterwards and will finish off the second half of the school year with my students.
As a sixth grade teacher one of my primary goals is to prepare your child for the rest of middle school, high school, and beyond. In order to do this, I stress academic as well as non-academic areas of the curriculum. Two important areas of concentration will be study habits and organizational skills that are critical for success in school. All students will need to be prepared every day for their classes in order to help them succeed.
Thank you in advance for your support. If either you or your child has any concerns about schoolwork, teacher expectations, or peer relationships, please let me know. I intend to provide an atmosphere that fosters respect, trust, consideration, and success for all of my students. I am looking forward to meeting all of you throughout the school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or e-mail me.
Sincerely,
Wendy Joyce

**If you have an electric pencil sharpener that you would like to donate to the classroom, that would be wonderful. Our sharpener decided to stop working at the end of the last school year! Thank you so much!
