Welcome to Casimir

Welcome incoming sixth graders! My name is Jan Garrene and I will be entering my 16th year here at Casimir. This year I will be teaching Math, Social Studies, Study Skills, and Art. I have always loved teaching at this school for several reasons, and I would like to share a few of them with you. My colleagues have always been like family to me. We have a warm community of parents that have given me the opportunity to teach hundreds of unique individuals. I enjoy being part of my students' lives while they are here at Casimir and always look forward to hearing back from them where ever life takes them. I am looking forward to meeting all of my new students for the 2007-2008 school year!
I grew up in Redondo Beach so the ocean, sunsets, and seashells are among my favorite things, that is besides my car. I earned my Bachelors degree from California State University at Long Beach and am excited to say I will be completing my Master's degree this December. Prior to teaching, I worked in retail management and sold real estate, but neither comes close to the fulfillment I find from working with my students.
I am blessed with a wonderful family, my husband Robert, my son Bryan, a Landscape Architect, and my daughter Michelle, a Financial Analyst for Northrop Grumman. I am sure many of my past students remember hearing all about their experiences growing up. My favorite hobbies are traveling, bike riding, doing crossword puzzles, and driving my car. I also enjoy listening to music and going out to dinner and a movie.
I am looking forward to another productive year at Casimir as I am planning interesting lessons and strategies to share with you. My expectations are high for all of you as you enter sixth grade. Get ready to work hard, discover new things, and grow as responsible and respectful human beings. Here's to a successful year for all of us!
